Iran's IRGC navy launches ‘Smart Control’ drill in Strait of Hormuz
The navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Monday began a large-scale naval exercise dubbed “Smart Control of the Strait of Hormuz” in the Persian Gulf, according to Iranian state media.
The drill is being conducted under the supervision of IRGC Commander-in-Chief Maj. Gen. Pakpour and focuses on operational scenarios related to securing the strategically vital waterway.
Iranian television reported that the exercise is designed to simulate reciprocal military responses to potential threats in and around the Strait of Hormuz. The drills are also aimed at evaluating the combat readiness and coordination of IRGC naval operational units.
Footage broadcast by national Iranian TV showed an IRGC Navy helicopter taking off as part of the exercise. A correspondent covering the maneuvers said the drills are expected to continue for several hours.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a key transit route for global energy supplies. Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored the strategic importance of maintaining security and operational preparedness in the area.
Further details about the scale and duration of the exercise have not yet been released. (ILKHA)
