Islamic scholars to gather in Diyarbakır to discuss da’wah, Gaza
Scholars from Türkiye and several Muslim-majority countries will gather in the southeastern city of Diyarbakır on October 10–11 for the 11th Scholars’ Meeting, organised by the Union of Scholars and Madrasas (İTTİHADUL ULEMA), to discuss methods of inviting people to Islam and challenges facing the Muslim world.
Held under the theme “Method in Invitation to Islam and New Approaches,” the gathering will address the language and style of Islamic outreach, the responsibilities of those engaged in da’wah, and the development of new approaches to religious communication.
İTTİHADUL ULEMA spokesperson Molla Remzi Uçar said scholars from Türkiye, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Palestine and Afghanistan, among other countries, were expected to attend the meeting.
“The issues, problems and difficulties of the Ummah will be addressed,” Uçar said, adding that preparations had been completed and guests had begun arriving in Diyarbakır.
The programme is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with organisers encouraging participants to arrive early.
The situation in Gaza, the status of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Al-Aqsa Flood operation will be among the key subjects discussed during the gathering, Uçar said.
He said Palestinian scholars with expertise in the Palestinian cause would contribute to discussions and deliver messages addressing the responsibilities of Muslims and the wider international community amid the continuing suffering in Gaza.
“We have not forgotten Gaza in this year’s meeting either,” Uçar said, adding that the programme would include dedicated sessions on Palestine and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He called on Muslims to stand in solidarity with Palestinians and urged individuals, civil society organisations and governments to work towards ending the bloodshed.
Uçar said the meeting would also convey messages to Muslim-majority countries and people around the world, stressing the need for a collective response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Organisers said the meeting would be conducted in Arabic, Kurdish and Turkish, with interpreters providing translation between the three languages.
Members of the press have been invited to cover the event, which will also be broadcast live on television. Updates will be shared through the organisation’s social media accounts.
