Sakurajima Volcano erupts, sending ash over southern Japan

A strong eruption occurred at Japan's Sakurajima volcano, one of the country's most active volcanoes, located on Kyushu Island in southwestern Japan.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) maintained a Level 3 volcanic alert for Sakurajima, restricting access around the crater area due to the risk of volcanic rocks and other hazards.
Authorities have banned entry within a 2-kilometer radius of the crater due to the risk of lava flows and falling volcanic rocks, while closely monitoring volcanic activity.
Residents in surrounding areas were warned about possible ashfall, with officials advising people to take precautions against volcanic ash carried by winds.
Sakurajima, located in Kagoshima Prefecture, is among Japan's most active volcanoes and has experienced frequent eruptions in recent years.(ILKHA)
