AFAD Head Pehlivan meets UN Gaza Senior Representative Mladenov in Ankara
Head of Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan, received Nikolay Mladenov, the United Nations’ Senior Representative for Gaza, along with his delegation, to discuss ongoing and planned humanitarian assistance for the Gaza Strip.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed Türkiye’s humanitarian efforts for Gaza, coordinated by AFAD in cooperation with relevant public institutions, international partners, and civil society organizations. Discussions focused on overcoming operational challenges on the ground, including debris removal, deployment of container housing, and the establishment of field hospitals to address urgent humanitarian needs.
Pehlivan underlined Türkiye’s commitment to sustained humanitarian support for Gaza, emphasizing that relief operations are being carried out with a focus on rapid response, coordination, and access for civilians amid difficult conditions.
Mladenov welcomed Türkiye’s contributions and highlighted the importance of continued international coordination to ensure the effective delivery of aid and the protection of civilians in Gaza.
The meeting was attended by Noura El Ouahab, Special Assistant to the UN Gaza Senior Representative; Ambassador Korkan Karakoç, Director General for Humanitarian and Technical Assistance; Ambassador Ahmet Demirer, Director General for the Middle East; Ambassador Mehmet Güllüoğlu, Türkiye’s Coordinator for Palestinian Humanitarian Assistance; Hakan Karaçay, Deputy Director General for the Middle East; Hamza Taşdelen, AFAD Vice President; Ahmet Nehar Poçan, Director General for Shelter and Construction; Maruf Yaman, Head of the Foreign Relations Department; and Seyfettin Karabulut, Head of the International Humanitarian Aid Department.
Türkiye has been among the countries actively providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza, a role frequently referenced in international coverage concerning regional relief coordination and UN-led humanitarian mechanisms. (ILKHA)
