10,000 missing under rubble as Gaza faces unprecedented destruction
The death toll in Gaza has reached a staggering 47,107, with over 111,147 reported injured since the Israeli military launched its devastating aggression on October 7, 2023, medical sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The relentless offensive, widely condemned as genocidal by Palestinian and international organizations, has disproportionately affected women and children, who make up the majority of those killed and injured.
Within the past 24 hours alone, 72 bodies, including 68 recovered from the rubble of destroyed buildings, and 56 wounded individuals were transferred to hospitals. The destruction has left at least 10,000 people unaccounted for, presumed dead beneath the debris of their homes across the besieged Gaza Strip.
Israel’s ongoing military campaign has persisted despite a legally binding decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which ordered an immediate halt to its offensive in Rafah. Legal experts argue that the military operations may constitute violations of the Genocide Convention.
The assault has also displaced nearly two million Palestinians, forcing them into the overcrowded southern city of Rafah near the Egyptian border. This displacement marks the largest mass exodus of Palestinians since the Nakba of 1948.
Human rights organizations have condemned the attacks as war crimes, emphasizing the devastating impact on Gaza's civilian population. The lack of accountability and disregard for international rulings continue to fuel calls for urgent global intervention to end the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. (ILKHA)
