Azerbaijan and Türkiye have extended their natural gas supply agreement for six years, ensuring continued energy cooperation between the two countries.
The previous agreement was set to expire at the end of 2024, but a signing ceremony during the Baku Energy Week extended the deal to 2030.
The agreement involves Turkish Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS), Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR, and Azerbaijan Gas Supply Company (AGSC).
Signing took place on June 4th, coinciding with the 29th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition.
The extension ensures continued supply of Azerbaijani natural gas to Türkiye.
Additionally, four agreements were signed regarding natural gas delivery and exchange.
This allows for Azerbaijani gas to be transported to Europe and Nakhchivan via Türkiye, while also enabling Turkmenistan gas to reach Türkiye.
Alparslan Bayraktar, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, confirmed the agreements on his social media account.
He expressed hope that the extended partnership would benefit both nations.
This extension strengthens the energy ties between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, providing a stable gas supply for Türkiye and potentially contributing to European energy security through Azerbaijani gas transported via Turkish pipelines. (ILKHA)
