Israeli settlers set fire to mosque, olive tree and vehicle near occupied Jerusalem
Israeli settlers set fire to a mosque, an olive tree and a vehicle during a raid on the Palestinian village of Mikhmas, northeast of occupied Jerusalem, in the early hours of Wednesday, according to the Jerusalem Governorate.
Dozens of settlers raided the village shortly after midnight and set fire to the mosque and a nearby olive tree, while a vehicle was completely burned, the governorate reported.
The attack adds to concerns over escalating settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, where Palestinian communities face repeated attacks on their homes, religious sites, vehicles and agricultural property.
The burning of the mosque also constitutes an attack on a place of worship, while the destruction of the olive tree strikes at a vital symbol of Palestinian heritage and a key source of livelihood for many Palestinian families.
Palestinians and rights groups have repeatedly called for international action to protect Palestinian communities and hold those responsible for settler attacks accountable. (ILKHA)
