Israel subjects Palestinian female detainees to systematic torture and humiliation in Damon Prison
The Palestinian Asra Media Office has exposed harrowing new details of a violent and degrading crackdown by Israeli prison authorities against Palestinian female detainees at Damon Prison on May 13, highlighting yet another chapter in Israel’s systematic abuse of Palestinian prisoners.
In a statement issued Thursday, the office described how Israeli special forces units stormed the women’s cells one by one in a coordinated assault. The detainees were forcibly thrown face-down on the floor with their hands brutally tied behind their backs for hours before the physical and psychological violence began.
According to the report, several women were savagely beaten, stomped on, and deliberately slammed to the ground. Prison cells were ransacked in a humiliating manner, while some female detainees were subjected to invasive searches in the presence of male guards — a clear violation of dignity and basic human rights. Many suffered injuries from excessively tight restraints, with the physical pain lingering long after the raid.
Detainees were then dragged, handcuffed and blindfolded, into the prison yard, where they were forced to remain on the ground in painful positions for extended periods. Guards reportedly hurled insults and made sexually suggestive comments, adding a layer of psychological torment and sexual humiliation to the attack. Stun grenades were reportedly used, and some women were forced to walk barefoot and blindfolded under harsh conditions.
In the days following the assault, Israeli authorities continued their retaliation with punitive measures including solitary confinement, prolonged shackling, harassment, and intimidation campaigns against the women.
The Asra Media Office strongly condemned these actions as serious violations of international humanitarian law and the basic standards for the treatment of prisoners. Such degrading treatment of female Palestinian detainees reflects the broader pattern of Israeli cruelty within its notorious prison system, where thousands of Palestinians — including women and minors — are routinely subjected to torture, medical neglect, and abuse.
This latest incident at Damon Prison is not an isolated event but part of Israel’s ongoing policy of repression aimed at breaking the spirit of the Palestinian people resisting occupation. The Asra Media Office has called on international human rights organizations, the United Nations, and humanitarian bodies to immediately intervene, investigate these crimes, hold the perpetrators accountable, and provide real protection for Palestinian female prisoners who continue to endure unimaginable suffering at the hands of the Israeli occupation. The international community’s silence only enables these repeated atrocities against Palestinian women. (ILKHA)
