Gaza journalist dies as Israel continues deadly attacks on press

Palestinian journalist Muhammed Es-Savalhi was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Wednesday evening near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, marking yet another deadly attack on media personnel covering the ongoing assault on Gaza.
Local sources report that the strike targeted an area south of the city where civilians were attempting to flee, killing at least 10 other Palestinians and injuring many more.
Es-Savalhi’s death brings the number of journalists martyred in Gaza since the beginning of the Israeli offensive on October 7, 2023, to 250, highlighting a systematic campaign by the Israeli regime to silence Palestinian voices.
Palestinian journalists and media institutions condemned the attack, emphasizing that targeting press members is a deliberate strategy to suppress information about the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. “The ongoing targeting of journalists represents an attempt to erase the voice of Palestine from the world stage,” stated a spokesperson for Gaza media organizations.
Press associations and civil society groups have called on international media outlets, human rights organizations, and global institutions to intervene immediately, urging an end to the repeated assaults on journalists reporting from Gaza.
“These attacks are not accidental,” the spokesperson said. “They are a deliberate effort by the Israeli occupation to intimidate, kill, and silence those who document the realities of Gaza, while the international community largely remains silent.”
The death of Es-Savalhi is a stark reminder of the extreme dangers faced by journalists covering the Israeli assault, as the Gaza Strip continues to endure bombardment, civilian casualties, and worsening humanitarian conditions. (ILKHA)
