President Erdoğan marks 752nd anniversary of Rumi’s Reunion
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has commemorated the 752nd anniversary of the “Reunion” of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, honoring the renowned Islamic scholar, mystic, and thinker whose teachings continue to inspire people across the world.
In a message issued for the 752nd International Commemoration Ceremony of Rumi’s Anniversary of Reunion, held at the Mevlana Cultural Centre, President Erdoğan paid tribute to Rumi as the “sultan of the heart” and a timeless source of wisdom, love, and compassion.
Erdoğan said that although more than seven and a half centuries have passed since Rumi’s reunion, his message transcends time and geography, representing not only Anatolia but also the shared conscience, spirit, and knowledge of humanity.
Describing Rumi as a unifying force who brought the ummah together through calls for peace and compassion, Erdoğan said Rumi’s teachings have echoed through the centuries as the voice of a saint who chose love over pride. He noted that Rumi’s wisdom has shaped the spiritual insight of these lands and remains an enduring symbol of love, unity, and kinship.
“The timeless wisdom of Rumi remains a beacon of guidance for us in the Century of Türkiye, as we strive to build it by deepening our bonds of unity and solidarity,” Erdoğan said. He added that in an era marked by global challenges and threats facing humanity, the value of Rumi’s teachings—centered on peace, love, unity, and solidarity—is more clearly understood.
Drawing inspiration from Rumi, Erdoğan said Türkiye seeks to stand with the oppressed while calling on oppressors to cease their wrongdoing, embracing all of humanity without discrimination.
The president also highlighted the spiritual significance of Şeb-i Arus, or the Night of Union, emphasizing that it represents not separation, but the joy of reuniting with the Divine and the peace that comes from this reunion. He described the occasion as an opportunity to renew hearts and allow affection and compassion to flourish.
Concluding his message, Erdoğan commemorated Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi and all spiritual leaders with mercy, gratitude, and respect, expressing his hope that Şeb-i Arus would bring peace, kindness, and tranquillity to all humanity. (ILKHA)
