WFP: Over two million in Gaza facing starvation amid ogoing blockade

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has issued a stark warning over the deepening humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, revealing that more than two million Palestinians—most of them displaced—are now living without any source of income and are entirely dependent on humanitarian aid to survive.
In a series of urgent statements released in the past 24 hours, the WFP sounded the alarm on the deteriorating food security situation across Gaza. The agency noted that the region is facing a rapid depletion of food stocks, placing hundreds of thousands of lives at risk and bringing the enclave to the brink of famine.
According to the WFP, the critical situation has been exacerbated by Israel’s continued closure of border crossings, which has effectively blocked the delivery of desperately needed food, medicine, and other life-saving supplies.
“Gaza needs a steady and unimpeded flow of humanitarian assistance,” the agency stressed, warning that without immediate intervention, the collapse of food security in the region is inevitable.
The WFP further emphasized that if the current restrictions persist, the already dire conditions will spiral into a full-scale humanitarian disaster. Palestinian civilians, particularly women and children, are bearing the brunt of the crisis, enduring acute shortages of essential resources, including food, clean water, and healthcare.
Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly called for the reopening of Gaza’s crossings and the establishment of a lasting ceasefire to facilitate relief operations. However, continued hostilities and logistical obstacles remain major barriers to aid delivery.
The WFP's warning comes as the blockade on Gaza nears its seventh consecutive week, amid growing international condemnation of Israel's actions and calls for urgent intervention to prevent further loss of life. (ILKHA)
