US resumes intelligence sharing on Russian missile threats with Ukraine, Zelensky announces
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that the United States had resumed sharing intelligence on incoming Russian ballistic missiles after a pause of several days, while restrictions remained in place on Ukraine’s use of SpaceX’s military satellite internet service.
In an interview with NBC News’ Meet the Press, Zelensky said Ukraine had gone three days without receiving the intelligence it relies on to detect and track Russian ballistic missile attacks.
“Only the United States has this unique intelligence to tell our side when Russia uses ballistic missiles. We didn’t receive it during ballistic attacks for three days,” he said.
Zelensky said the issue had since been resolved and thanked Washington for restoring the intelligence-sharing arrangement.
“We are very thankful for this,” he said. “Now it works.”
The United States provides Ukraine with intelligence to help its military identify and track Russian missile launches and other aerial threats.
However, Zelensky said Ukraine continued to face speed restrictions on Starshield, the military-oriented version of SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet system.
Asked whether US President Donald Trump or SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk had personally ordered the restrictions, Zelensky said he did not know but believed both were involved.
He added that the service would return to its previous state if Trump decided to lift the restrictions.
The comments highlight Ukraine’s continued reliance on US intelligence and satellite communications as it seeks to defend itself against Russian attacks. They also underscore the importance of Washington’s decisions on military support and technology access to Kyiv’s war effort. (ILKHA)
