Afghan FM, UNAMA Chief meet in Kabul to strengthen humanitarian and economic ties
Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, foreign minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has met with Rabab Fatima, the UN secretary-general’s special representative for Afghanistan and head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), to discuss humanitarian assistance, development projects and expanded cooperation.
During the meeting, Muttaqi stressed the importance of separating political issues from economic activities and humanitarian aid, calling for continued support to address Afghanistan’s humanitarian and development needs.
He highlighted the need to assist returning Afghans, expand support for development and infrastructure projects, and ensure that UN reports on Afghanistan are based on accurate and reliable information.
Muttaqi also called for a balanced assessment of the country’s situation and greater coordination with relevant Afghan institutions.
Fatima discussed ways to expand cooperation between the United Nations and Afghanistan, with particular attention to humanitarian needs, climate change, water resource management and support for the private sector.
The meeting also addressed the activities of the Doha Process working groups focused on private-sector development and combating drug-related challenges.
The discussions come as Afghanistan continues to face humanitarian and economic challenges, with international assistance and investment remaining important issues for the country’s development. (ILKHA)
