UNRWA slams Gaza aid system: Inviting people to their death

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has issued a stark warning about the current humanitarian aid distribution model in the Gaza Strip, declaring it ineffective and dangerously inadequate.
Juliette Touma, UNRWA's Communications Director, described the situation in grim terms, stating, “It’s as if you’re inviting people to their own death.” Touma emphasized that the only viable and safe method to deliver aid at the necessary scale is through the United Nations, including UNRWA.
Touma highlighted the agency’s proven effectiveness during previous ceasefires, noting that UNRWA was able to make a significant impact when it was allowed to operate unhindered. She called for renewed international support and unrestricted access for UN agencies to continue delivering critical humanitarian assistance.
“The model in place is simply not working,” she said, pointing to increasing desperation among Gaza’s population as food, medicine, and essential supplies remain out of reach for many.
UNRWA has long served as a lifeline for millions of Palestinians, particularly during times of conflict. The agency is now urging global stakeholders to prioritize humanitarian access and allow it to fulfill its mandate without obstruction. (ILKHA)
