International students unite in Ankara for 15th traditional Ummah Eid celebration

Muslim students from across the globe gathered in Ankara for the 15th edition of the Traditional Ummah Eid Celebration, a heartfelt event aimed at fostering unity, brotherhood, and a sense of family for international students spending Eid al-Adha far from home.
Organized by the Asma Köprü International Student Association, the annual celebration took place in the courtyard of Hanif Mosque on the second day of Eid. Students from nearly 85 different countries came together with Ankara residents to mark the holiday with joy, spirituality, and solidarity.
The program began with collective salawat and takbirs, followed by special prayers — particularly for the people of Gaza and for all oppressed communities around the world. The gathering served not only as a cultural and religious celebration but also as a demonstration of the global unity of the Muslim ummah in the face of ongoing hardships.
Prominent figures from the political and social spheres also attended the event. HÜDA PAR Vice Presidents İshak Sağlam and Hüseyin İmir, along with General Administrative Board Member İbrahim Sevgili, joined the students in sharing Eid greetings and expressing support for international student communities.
Speaking to ILKHA, Hanefi Sinan, President of the Asma Köprü International Student Association, emphasized the importance of the event in creating a supportive environment for students who are unable to return home during the holidays.
“We are celebrating our 15th Ummah Eid al-Adha today,” said Sinan. “May this Eid be a step toward the revival of the ummah and the liberation of all oppressed regions. In Ankara alone, we have nearly 20,000 international students, most of whom remain here for years without visiting their families due to economic difficulties. That’s why we organize this program — to provide a family-like atmosphere for them.”
Sinan highlighted that many students pursue education in diverse professional fields and often endure long periods without returning to their home countries. “We try to support them emotionally and spiritually, especially during religious holidays,” he added. “We pray that our efforts are accepted by Allah.”
The event featured traditional Eid treats, conversations among attendees, and a festive spirit that reflected both the diversity and unity of the Muslim world.
As international crises continue to displace and affect millions, events like the Ummah Eid Celebration serve as vital platforms for community-building, hope, and shared faith — reminding all that the bonds of the ummah transcend borders. (ILKHA)
