Syria reopens embassy in Morocco as relations enter new phase
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani expressed deep appreciation to his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita following official talks in the Moroccan capital Rabat, praising the warm reception and emphasizing the growing ties between Syria and Morocco.
In a statement on X, al-Shaibani thanked Bourita for Morocco’s “genuine warmth of reception and generous hospitality,” saying the visit reflected “the deep-rooted heritage of Morocco and the nobility of its people.”
The Syrian foreign minister also highlighted the importance of the meetings held between the two sides, describing them as “rich fraternal discussions” that demonstrated the depth of relations between the two brotherly nations.
Al-Shaibani stated that the talks marked “a bright milestone that strengthened prospects for cooperation and integration,” adding that he hoped the discussions would pave the way toward “a firm strategic partnership that serves the interests of our two peoples and opens broader horizons for shared progress and prosperity.”
The remarks came after official Syrian-Moroccan talks in Rabat focused on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing coordination on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Earlier in the day, al-Shaibani inaugurated the Syrian Embassy in Rabat, officially announcing the restoration of diplomatic ties between Syria and Morocco after a 12-year suspension.
The reopening of the embassy signals a new phase in relations between Damascus and Rabat, amid broader regional efforts aimed at restoring Arab diplomatic engagement with Syria following years of political isolation linked to the conflict in the country. (ILKHA)
