Ansarullah says it targeted Riyadh airport and Khamis Mushait Air Base
Yemen's Ansarullah movement announced that it had targeted King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh with a ballistic missile and Khamis Mushait Air Base with an armed drone, saying the operations were carried out in response to continued Saudi attacks on Yemen.
Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson Yahya Saree said the missile strike targeted Riyadh's airport, while a separate drone operation was carried out against Khamis Mushait Air Base in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
Saree claimed that both attacks achieved their intended objectives, although the claims could not be independently verified.
Saudi coalition says missile intercepted
Shortly after Ansarullah's announcement, the Saudi-led coalition said its air defence systems had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched toward Riyadh.
Saudi authorities also said the threat had ended after emergency alerts were issued in the capital. However, there was no immediate official confirmation regarding Ansarullah's claim of a drone strike on Khamis Mushait Air Base.
Airlines warned against using Saudi airports
Saree renewed his warning to international airlines, urging them to suspend flights to Saudi airports except those serving Makkah and Madinah, claiming that other airports remained within the range of Yemeni military operations.
The warning comes as Saudi authorities have extended the suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport following recent attacks and heightened security concerns.
Ansarullah reports intensified airstrikes on Yemen
According to Saree, Saudi warplanes carried out 119 air and missile strikes over the past 24 hours on several Yemeni provinces, including Sanaa, Al-Jawf, Taiz, Saada, Marib, Lahij, Al-Bayda and Ibb.
He alleged that the attacks resulted in civilian casualties, including women and children, and said the total number of Saudi air and missile attacks on Yemen since the latest phase of hostilities began had reached 2,177. Those claims could not be independently verified.
The latest exchange of attacks comes amid a sharp escalation in the conflict, with repeated missile and drone strikes disrupting Saudi civil aviation and prompting heightened regional security measures.(ILKHA)
