Russian drone hits Kyiv bridge, mayor says
A Russian drone struck the road surface of Kyiv's Pivnichnyi Bridge on Sunday, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said, as Moscow stepped up attacks on infrastructure in the Ukrainian capital.
“Russian drone struck the road surface on the North Bridge. Emergency services are heading to the scene,” Klitschko said on Telegram.
The strike came a day after another Russian drone attack damaged the same bridge, including its road surface and trolleybus power lines, according to Ukrainian authorities. Two people were injured in Saturday's attack.
The Pivnichnyi Bridge, which crosses the Dnipro River, is a key transport link between Kyiv's eastern and western banks. Authorities have repeatedly diverted traffic and public transport following recent strikes on bridges in the capital.
The latest attack also disrupted a heating main, affecting hot-water supplies in parts of Kyiv's Desnianskyi district, local authorities said.
Russia has previously said Kyiv's bridges are used to transport Ukrainian troops and military equipment and has described strikes on such infrastructure as military operations. Kyiv has accused Moscow of deliberately targeting critical infrastructure.
Both sides have intensified long-range drone attacks in recent weeks, with Russia targeting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure and Ukraine striking Russian military and energy facilities.
Claims by both sides about individual strikes and damage could not be independently verified.
The attacks come as Ukraine prepares for another winter of war, with Russian strikes on energy and other infrastructure raising concerns over electricity and heating supplies. (ILKHA)
