Russian attacks across Ukraine kill at least 9, injure 56 in 24 hours
Russian attacks across Ukraine killed at least nine people and injured 56 others over the past 24 hours, as Moscow launched a large-scale combined missile and drone assault targeting Kyiv and several other regions, Ukrainian authorities said on Oct. 22.
In the capital, Russian ballistic missiles struck transport and medical infrastructure in multiple waves overnight, killing at least one person and injuring 24 others, according to city officials.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched a combined attack involving Iskander-M, S-400, Zircon and Onyx missiles, alongside 210 drones of various types, including 110 jet-powered drones.
Kyiv was the main target of the assault, the Air Force said, adding that Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 181 drones, including 87 jet-powered ones.
Strikes were recorded at 32 locations, while debris from intercepted targets fell at eight other sites, according to the military.
In Kharkiv Oblast, one person was killed and 15 others, including three children, were injured in Russian attacks on Kharkiv and 11 other settlements, regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said.
In Sumy Oblast, one person was killed and four others were injured in Russian drone attacks. Russian forces carried out nearly 60 attacks against 26 settlements across 14 communities over the past day, the regional military administration said.
In Donetsk Oblast, two people were killed in attacks on Druzhkivka and Kramatorsk, while nine others were injured, Governor Vadym Filashkin reported.
Zaporizhzhia Oblast recorded three deaths and three injuries following Russian attacks on the regional capital, Zaporizhzhia, and surrounding areas, Governor Ivan Fedorov said. Russian forces launched 862 attacks against 48 settlements across the region over the past day.
In Chernihiv Oblast, one person was killed and another injured after Russian forces twice targeted an enterprise in Chernihiv with Banderol drones, regional Governor Viacheslav Chaus said.
A separate Russian drone strike hit an agricultural enterprise in Semenivka overnight, setting a warehouse and other buildings on fire, he added.
The latest wave of attacks affected multiple regions, with transport, medical, industrial and agricultural facilities among the reported targets.
The casualties and damage reported by Ukrainian authorities underscore the continuing toll of Russia’s aerial campaign on communities across the country.
The figures and details of the attacks were provided by Ukrainian regional and military authorities and had not been independently verified. (ILKHA)
