Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has claimed that Israel is actively working to undermine a newly signed agreement between Iran and the United States, describing the pact as evidence of Washington’s failure to achieve its military objectives against Tehran.

In a social media post on Saturday, Medvedev stated that despite launching extensive missile attacks and assassinating senior Iranian officials, the United States and its allies were unable to secure victory in the conflict.

“The Israeli regime, wounded and dissatisfied with the outcome of the wars, is now attempting to sabotage the agreement and exact revenge,” Medvedev wrote. He singled out Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of trying to destroy the deal through continued attacks on Lebanon and other provocative actions.

Medvedev added that even U.S. President Donald Trump “cannot do anything about it,” and warned that expectations of full peace in the region remain “hasty and unrealistic.”

The Russian official highlighted Iran’s strategic leverage, describing the Strait of Hormuz as a “powerful weapon” that Tehran would not hesitate to use. “It is rash to expect peace, and the Strait of Hormuz has truly turned into a Persian nuke,” he said, referencing a previous statement he made on April 8.

The United States and Israel initiated military action against Iran in the early hours of February 28, 2026. According to Iranian accounts, the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces mounted a strong response, including the downing of advanced enemy fighter jets and strikes on U.S. warships in southern waters. These actions reportedly forced the aggressors into a military stalemate, leading them to seek a ceasefire and negotiations.

A temporary ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan, was announced on April 8, paving the way for direct Iran-U.S. talks in Islamabad. On June 15, 2026, Pakistan announced that the two sides had signed a memorandum of understanding, finalized by the presidents of Iran and the United States.

Medvedev’s remarks reflect ongoing tensions in the region even after the formal agreement, with concerns that Israeli actions could destabilize the fragile truce. (ILKHA)
