Islamic Emirate rejects Trump’s threats over Bagram airbase

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats over Bagram Airbase, calling on Washington to abandon its failed policies of coercion and to respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty as outlined in the Doha Agreement.
In an official statement, the Emirate stressed that Afghanistan’s soil will never again be used for foreign military bases or occupation forces, warning that any attempt to reclaim Bagram would be met with firm resistance.
Islamic Emirate: No Compromise on Afghan Soil
Hamdullah Fitrat, Deputy Spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, reminded Washington of its signed commitments: “Under the Doha Agreement, the United States pledged not to use or threaten force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Afghanistan, nor interfere in its internal affairs. It is necessary that they remain faithful to their commitments.”
Fasihuddin Fitrat, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Defense, went further, categorically denying rumors of talks over Bagram Airfield.
“No deal over even an inch of Afghanistan’s soil is possible,” Fasihuddin declared. “Some voices claim we are negotiating to return Bagram Airfield or seeking a political settlement after the U.S. failed to take it by force. We assure the Afghan people that no such agreement exists.”
Trump’s Threats Rejected as Colonial Rhetoric
The statements came after Donald Trump issued a public warning that “bad things” would happen if Bagram was not handed back to the United States. The Emirate dismissed this as a return to colonial-era bullying tactics, emphasizing that Afghanistan is an independent nation whose sovereignty is non-negotiable.
Trump had also claimed that negotiations were already underway to reclaim the base — a claim the Emirate called “baseless propaganda.”
A Call for Rationality and Respect
The Islamic Emirate reiterated that its foreign policy is guided by Islamic principles, mutual interests, and balanced diplomacy, and that it seeks positive relations with all countries — but on the basis of equality, not submission.
“Instead of repeating failed experiences, approaches based on rationality should be adopted,” the statement said.
A Broader Struggle Against Occupation
Observers have drawn parallels between Afghanistan’s firm stance and the struggles of other oppressed nations — particularly the Palestinian people — against occupation and foreign domination. Just as Palestinians resist Israeli control over their land, Afghans are determined not to allow their territory to once again become a platform for foreign militarism.
Analysts note that Trump’s threats echo Washington’s longstanding pattern of interfering in sovereign states under the pretext of “security,” a policy that has fueled decades of war across the Muslim world.
By rejecting these threats, the Islamic Emirate positions itself as part of a broader front of resistance movements demanding respect for sovereignty, self-determination, and freedom from foreign domination — principles that resonate deeply with the ongoing Palestinian struggle. (ILKHA)
