Iran executes Israeli spy Babak Shahbazi after espionage conviction

Iranian authorities announced Wednesday the execution of Babak Shahbazi, a man convicted of conducting espionage activities on behalf of the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad.
According to official statements, Shahbazi exploited his work as a contractor for several firms connected to telecommunications, security, and military institutions in order to infiltrate secure sites and obtain classified information. Investigators revealed that he used his access to gather intelligence from restricted areas, including server rooms and sensitive facilities, before passing the data to Israeli handlers.
Authorities stated that Shahbazi regularly met with Mossad operatives, during which he reportedly handed over critical intelligence — including addresses of strategic projects, the scale and type of operations, staff numbers, entry methods for facilities, and even the identities of senior managers. He was also accused of providing detailed technical assessments of project vulnerabilities, posing a serious threat to Iran’s national security.
Iran’s judiciary confirmed that the death sentence, issued by a Revolutionary Court, was reviewed and upheld by the Supreme Court before being carried out. Officials stressed that the verdict came after a thorough investigation and that the case represents an important victory in the country’s ongoing battle against foreign infiltration and espionage networks.
Security analysts in Tehran hailed the execution as a deterrent to hostile intelligence services seeking to destabilize Iran. “This case is a reminder that the Islamic Republic will act decisively against any attempt to compromise its sovereignty or endanger the lives of its people,” a security official stated.
While some Western-based human rights organizations criticized the trial, Iranian authorities dismissed the allegations, insisting that Shahbazi’s case was handled within the framework of Iranian law and due judicial process.
The operation is the latest in a series of counter-intelligence successes by Iranian security forces, who have intensified efforts in recent years to dismantle Israeli spy rings and neutralize threats to the nation’s security infrastructure. (ILKHA)
