Hamas: Palestinian resistance will continue until occupation ends
Palestinian resistance factions issued statements on Friday marking the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, reaffirming the Palestinian people’s inalienable right of return and self-determination, while firmly rejecting any form of Israeli sovereignty over occupied Palestinian land.
The statements come amid ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza and escalating tensions across the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, which the factions describe as a continuation of decades-long displacement, occupation, and systematic dispossession that began in 1948.
The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas stated that 78 years after the Nakba, the Palestinian people continue to face ongoing Israeli aggression targeting civilians, religious sites, and vital infrastructure.
The movement highlighted what it described as an ongoing “war of extermination and starvation” in the Gaza Strip over the past two years, alongside repeated violations of ceasefire agreements through continued attacks on civilians. It said more than 850 Palestinians have been killed since last October alone.
Hamas also condemned continued Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank and Jerusalem, repeated military raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque, and policies aimed at forced displacement and demographic engineering, describing these actions as a direct extension of the 1948 Nakba and its unresolved consequences.
The movement reaffirmed that resistance in all its forms is a legitimate right guaranteed by international law, stressing that “the weapons of resistance are inseparable from the existence of the occupation.” It rejected any attempts to disarm Palestinian factions while occupation persists and reiterated its unwavering commitment to the right of return and the centrality of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque to the Palestinian struggle.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad emphasized that the Israeli project is not confined to Palestine but represents a broader regional threat affecting the entire Arab and Islamic world.
The movement said ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza, alongside mass arrests, infrastructure destruction, settlement expansion, land confiscation, and repeated assaults on holy sites—particularly Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ibrahimi Mosque—are part of a systematic effort to erase Palestinian identity and impose irreversible realities on the ground.
It warned that continued targeting of Palestinian prisoners and legislative measures against detainees form part of a wider attempt to eliminate the refugee issue and undermine the internationally recognized right of return.
The group called for a unified regional and international stance to confront what it described as an existential threat, while praising the steadfastness and resilience of Palestinian resistance across all arenas.
The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement said this year’s Nakba anniversary coincides with intensified Israeli military operations in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, alongside ongoing campaigns it described as “extermination and ethnic cleansing.”
It stated that despite international silence and continued Western political and military support for Israel, the Palestinian people remain firm in their land and committed to their rights.
The movement reiterated that resistance remains the strategic and legitimate choice of the Palestinian people, calling for strengthened national unity and intensified resistance against occupation. It also held Britain and Western governments historically responsible for enabling the establishment of Israel and the resulting displacement of Palestinians, urging urgent international intervention to halt ongoing violations.
In their concluding remarks, the factions stressed that despite 78 years since the Nakba, the Palestinian people remain deeply rooted in their land and identity, reaffirming that all attempts to erase their cause will fail in the face of continued resilience and resistance. (ILKHA)
