Eight killed, at least 15 injured in electrocution during Ashura procession in Pakistan
Eight people were killed and at least 15 others seriously injured after a ceremonial flag came into contact with a high-voltage power line during an Ashura procession in southern Pakistan, authorities said.
The incident occurred in Dakhan town in the Shikarpur district of Sindh province during commemorations marking the month of Muharram and the martyrdom of Imam Hussein at Karbala.
According to local police, a large ceremonial flag being carried in the procession lost its balance and touched an overhead high-voltage electricity line, causing a powerful electric shock.
The people carrying the flag were electrocuted, while several others standing nearby were also injured in the incident.
Rescue workers and local residents rushed the victims to hospitals in Shikarpur, Larkana and Sukkur. Officials said many of the injured remain in critical condition.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while local officials urged organizers to take additional safety precautions during large religious gatherings.(ILKHA)
