At least seven killed in twin bomb blasts in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province
Two roadside blasts triggered by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) killed at least seven people in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, authorities said.
The first blast targeted a private pickup truck carrying passengers using a remote-controlled IED in Bannu district, which borders Afghanistan. Five people were killed in the initial explosion.
As the injured were being rushed to hospital in a car for emergency treatment, a second IED detonated, killing two more people and wounding three others, according to Afridi, a local official.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the twin blasts.
The attacks occurred in a region that has witnessed repeated militant violence, particularly near the Afghan border. Security forces have launched operations against insurgent groups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent years, but sporadic attacks continue to claim civilian and security personnel lives.
Further details on the identities of the victims and the exact circumstances of the blasts were not immediately available. (ILKHA)
