Türkiye’s population hits 85.8 million, TurkStat reports
Türkiye’s population has reached 85,824,854 as of July 1, 2025, marking a significant increase of 159,910 people in the first six months of the year, according to the Türkiye Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
The latest figures, released in TurkStat’s inaugural quarterly population report covering three-month periods, show the country’s population growing from 85,664,944 at the end of 2024.
The data reveals a near gender balance, with males comprising 50.01% of the population (42,923,584 individuals) and females accounting for 49.99% (42,901,270 individuals). This close parity underscores Türkiye’s demographic diversity as the nation continues to grow steadily.
TurkStat’s new quarterly reporting system aims to provide more frequent and detailed insights into population trends, offering policymakers and researchers a clearer picture of demographic shifts.
The institute noted that urban areas, particularly Istanbul, Ankara, and İzmir, continue to drive population growth, with migration and birth rates contributing to the increase.
Istanbul alone accounts for approximately 15.5 million residents, or 18% of the total population, based on preliminary estimates. (ILKHA)
