Family, friends, party members, and supporters gathered at Hazreti Yusuf Cemetery in the Kahta district of Adıyaman to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the passing of Mehmet Yavuz, former Deputy Chairman of HÜDA PAR.

The solemn event was marked by prayers and heartfelt tributes honoring a respected scholar and politician who dedicated his life to justice, human rights, and the advocacy of Kurdish and Muslim communities in Türkiye.

Mehmet Yavuz passed away on August 9, 2019, at the age of 46 after a battle with cancer. Born in Adıyaman in 1973, Yavuz earned a degree in theology and became widely known for bridging faith and politics. Throughout his career, he focused on promoting social justice, safeguarding religious freedoms, and addressing the challenges faced by Türkiye’s diverse society.

The annual commemoration programme drew a large crowd of HÜDA PAR members, supporters, and loved ones who gathered to honor Yavuz’s memory with prayers and speeches reflecting on his profound contributions to the party and the broader human rights struggle in the country.

During the ceremony, Adem Yavuz, Mehmet Yavuz’s brother, delivered an emotional speech expressing gratitude to those present. “We are touched by the presence of everyone who has come to honor my brother’s memory,” he said, highlighting Mehmet’s unwavering commitment to his principles and community.

İshak Sağlam, Deputy Chairman of HÜDA PAR responsible for Human Rights and Legal Affairs, also paid tribute to Yavuz’s dedication and sacrifices. “Mehmet Yavuz was a guiding light for our party and our cause,” Sağlam remarked. “His contributions to advocating for justice and human rights continue to inspire us all.”

During his tenure as Deputy Chairman, Yavuz was instrumental in shaping HÜDA PAR’s vision, especially concerning social justice and religious freedoms. His ability to engage with diverse communities and articulate their concerns earned him respect in Türkiye’s political landscape.
