Türkiye rejects claims of attack on foreign military base, calls reports disinformation
The Türkiye government has dismissed circulating social media claims alleging that a U.S. military installation on Turkish soil had been struck, describing the reports as false and part of a broader disinformation campaign.
In a statement released on Monday, the Türkiye’s Center for Combating Disinformation clarified that no foreign military bases exist within Türkiye’s territory and reaffirmed that all airspace, land, maritime zones, and military facilities remain fully under national sovereignty and control.
Authorities confirmed that no attack had taken place and stressed that Türkiye is not involved in the regional military confrontations being reported in various international media and online platforms.
The statement highlighted that posts seeking to portray Türkiye as a party to external conflicts are misleading and constitute clear acts of disinformation. Officials urged the public to rely only on verified information and official announcements.
Türkiye’s defence and security institutions, the statement added, remain fully operational and are monitoring developments in real time to ensure national stability and security.
Authorities emphasized the importance of digital literacy and caution in the face of unverified claims spreading across social media. Citizens were encouraged to cross-check information with reliable sources and avoid amplifying rumours that could generate public anxiety.
The disinformation office reiterated its commitment to combating false narratives and safeguarding the information environment, particularly during periods of regional tension and heightened online speculation. (ILKHA)
