The Martyrs' Caravan Platform (Şehitler Kervanı Platformu) has commemorated the victims of the 1992 Susa Mosque massacre, marking the anniversary of one of the deadliest attacks on worshippers in southeastern Türkiye.

In a statement shared on social media, the platform paid tribute to the 10 civilians who were killed during an armed attack on worshippers performing the Isha prayer at the village mosque in Susa (Yolaç) Village on the night of June 26, 1992.

The platform described the attack as a tragedy that remains deeply etched in the collective memory of the region, emphasizing that the victims lost their lives while engaged in prayer.

"Some nights are written into history not with ink, but with blood... The year was 1992... The night of June 25... The peace of the Isha prayer was shattered by a treacherous attack. A village mosque, a handful of believers, and a blessed journey from prostration to martyrdom," the statement read.

The platform further stated that the attack "targeted not only lives but also consciences," adding that the victims' sacrifice continues to symbolize faith, loyalty, and steadfastness.

"The years that have passed have not diminished the pain. Susa is remembered not only as the site of a massacre but also as a symbol of faith, loyalty, and the price paid for the sake of truth," the statement said.

It concluded by honoring the victims and pledging that the events of that night would not be forgotten.

According to historical accounts, on the night of June 26, 1992, armed members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) opened fire on worshippers gathered for the Isha prayer inside the village mosque in Susa, which is connected to the Silvan district.

The attack claimed the lives of 10 people and left five others injured, making it one of the bloodiest attacks against civilians in the region during that period.

Each year, survivors, relatives of the victims, and civil society organizations commemorate the anniversary of the massacre, calling for the memory of those killed to be preserved.

The Martyrs' Caravan Platform said remembering the victims is both a moral responsibility and a reminder of the suffering endured by communities affected by violence, stressing that the lives lost in the Susa Mosque attack should remain an enduring part of the region's historical memory. (ILKHA)
