Türkiye sees increase in cattle, sheep, and goat numbers in June

The total number of bovine animals in Türkiye reached 17 million 189 thousand heads in June 2025, according to a statement released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Wednesday.
Breaking down the figures, the number of cattle rose by 1.2% to 17 million 30 thousand heads, while buffalo numbers fell by 2.3%, reaching 158 thousand heads compared to the end of the previous year.
In the broader category of sheep and goats, the total number rose to 58 million 206 thousand heads in June 2025. Sheep numbers increased by 6.7%, totaling 47 million 15 thousand heads, while goat numbers rose by 3.4% to 11 million 191 thousand heads, year-on-year.
These figures indicate steady growth in Türkiye’s livestock sector, particularly in cattle and small ruminants, reflecting ongoing trends in agricultural production and animal husbandry. (ILKHA)
