Türkiye records 215,000 vehicle registrations in August

In August 2025, a total of 215,130 road motor vehicles were registered in Türkiye, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
Cars accounted for 44.1% of registrations, closely followed by motorcycles at 43.9%, while small trucks represented 8.0%. Tractors, trucks, minibuses, buses, and special-purpose vehicles made up the remaining 3.6% of registrations.
Compared with July 2025, the total number of road vehicle registrations fell by 16.4%. Registration growth varied by vehicle type: buses rose by 18.5% and minibuses by 13.4%, while registrations dropped sharply for special-purpose vehicles (64.2%), small trucks (38.4%), motorcycles (17.1%), trucks (13.8%), cars (10.7%), and tractors (4.9%).
On a year-on-year basis, total registrations increased modestly by 1.8%. Cars saw a significant 43.5% rise compared to August 2024, whereas tractors declined by 47.3%, special-purpose vehicles by 32.1%, and buses by 25.2%. Motorcycles fell 18.3%, trucks 11.4%, small trucks 1.9%, and minibuses 1.3%.
At the end of August, Türkiye had 32,828,821 registered road vehicles, with cars comprising 51.6%, motorcycles 20.9%, small trucks 14.8%, tractors 7.0%, trucks 3.1%, minibuses 1.6%, buses 0.7%, and special-purpose vehicles 0.3%.
In August, 985,244 vehicles were delivered to buyers, with cars making up 67%, small trucks 14.1%, and motorcycles 12.1%. The top car brands for newly registered vehicles were Renault (12.7%), Fiat (7.4%), Volkswagen (6.7%), Hyundai (6.5%), Toyota (6.3%), and BYD (5.2%). Other notable brands included Citroen, Peugeot, Opel, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.
From January to August 2025, 1,562,342 vehicles were registered, marking a 10.7% decrease compared to the same period last year. Withdrawals of road vehicles increased by 72.4% to 33,837, resulting in a net increase of 1,528,505 vehicles.
Among 709,237 cars registered during this period, 45.4% ran on gasoline, 26.8% were hybrid, 17.6% electric, 9.2% diesel, and 1.0% LPG. At the end of August, of the 16,944,312 cars registered nationwide, 33.1% were diesel, 30.7% LPG, 30.7% gasoline, 3.4% hybrid, and 1.8% electric.
The most common engine size among newly registered cars was 1,300 cc or less, accounting for 29.3%, followed by 1,401–1,500 cc at 23.6%. Other engine sizes included 1,301–1,400 cc (10.2%), 1,501–1,600 cc (10.8%), 1,601–2,000 cc (8.1%), and above 2,001 cc (0.5%).
In terms of colors, grey remained the most popular choice (40.2%), followed by white (24.4%), black (13.9%), and blue (11.6%). Green, red, yellow, brown, orange, and other colors made up the remaining registrations. (ILKHA)
