Afghanistan and Kazakhstan deepen economic ties with 25 new business agreements
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce has announced the successful conclusion of the Afghan-Kazakh Business Forum, which resulted in the signing of 25 cooperation agreements between private sector representatives from Afghanistan and Kazakhstan.
According to the ministry, the agreements cover a broad range of commercial sectors and are expected to facilitate increased bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation. The newly signed deals include partnerships in the import and export of spices, fresh fruits, dried fruits, and vegetables, as well as agreements related to banking and financial services. The accords also encompass trade in key commodities such as flour, wheat, edible oils, and potatoes, products that play an important role in regional food security and supply chains.
Officials described the agreements as an important milestone in efforts to expand economic engagement between Kabul and Astana, reflecting growing interest among businesses in both countries to capitalize on emerging market opportunities. The forum brought together government representatives, business leaders, exporters, importers, and investors seeking to enhance commercial connectivity and identify new avenues for cooperation.
Afghanistan possesses considerable agricultural potential and is well known for its high-quality fresh and dried fruits, saffron, nuts, and other agricultural products, many of which enjoy strong demand in regional and international markets. Kazakhstan, meanwhile, is one of Central Asia’s largest grain producers and a major exporter of wheat and flour, making economic cooperation between the two countries strategically beneficial.
The signing of the agreements comes amid ongoing efforts by the Afghan government to diversify trade partnerships and strengthen economic links with neighboring countries and regional powers. In recent years, both Afghanistan and Kazakhstan have emphasized the importance of improving transport corridors, facilitating customs procedures, and creating favorable conditions for private sector growth.
Trade relations between the two nations have expanded steadily, with Kazakhstan becoming one of Afghanistan’s key economic partners in Central Asia. Kazakh exports to Afghanistan have traditionally included grain products, foodstuffs, and industrial goods, while Afghan exporters have sought greater access to Central Asian markets for agricultural and horticultural products.
Economic experts note that deeper cooperation in banking and finance could further support bilateral trade by easing transactions, improving access to credit, and encouraging cross-border investment. Enhanced financial cooperation is also expected to facilitate larger-scale commercial projects in the future.
The Afghan Ministry of Industry and Commerce expressed optimism that the agreements signed during the forum will contribute to increased trade volumes, stronger private sector engagement, and greater economic integration between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic cooperation and exploring new opportunities that can support sustainable growth and prosperity in the region.
The latest agreements underscore the growing importance of regional economic partnerships in Central Asia and highlight the role of private sector collaboration in strengthening trade, food security, and economic development across the broader region. (ILKHA)
