Vučić urges NATO chief to protect Serbs in Kosovo
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has sent a letter to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, urging the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) to take action against what he described as “terror” targeting Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.
According to Vučić, he asked KFOR to protect the Serbian population and prevent the opening of a bridge that he said could further increase tensions and threaten security in the area.
In his letter, the Serbian president called on NATO to ensure the safety of Serbs and uphold its responsibility for maintaining a secure environment in Kosovo and Metohija.
Vučić’s appeal comes amid continuing tensions between Belgrade and Pristina, particularly over security arrangements and developments affecting Serb-majority areas in northern Kosovo.
The Serbian government has repeatedly called on international security forces and institutions in Kosovo to protect the rights and safety of the Serb community, while opposing unilateral measures by Pristina that Belgrade says could further destabilize the situation.
KFOR, deployed in Kosovo under a United Nations mandate, remains responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement throughout the territory.
The latest appeal underscores Belgrade’s concerns over the security situation and its call for NATO and other international actors to prevent further escalation between Kosovo’s authorities and the Serb community. (ILKHA)
