US convenes UN security council members to discuss Gaza stabilization plan
The United States convened a high-level meeting at the United Nations on Wednesday to discuss a forthcoming UN Security Council resolution aimed at advancing peace and stability in Gaza, according to a statement from the US Mission to the UN.
US Ambassador Michael Waltz chaired the meeting, which brought together the 10 elected members of the UN Security Council. The United States also invited Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates to participate in the discussions, highlighting what Washington described as “regional support for the resolution.”
The draft resolution reportedly endorses the establishment of a Board of Peace and authorizes the creation of an International Stabilization Force — both key pillars of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan.
According to the US mission, the proposal aims to ensure the continued delivery of humanitarian aid, secure the release of all hostages, and lay the foundations for long-term security and prosperity in Gaza.
“Under President Trump’s bold leadership, the United States will again deliver results at the UN — not endless talk,” the mission said. “The parties have seized this historic opportunity to finally end decades of bloodshed and make the president’s vision of lasting peace in the Middle East a reality.”
Local media reports earlier indicated that Washington had circulated the draft resolution among Security Council members, calling for the creation of an international security force in Gaza with a mandate of at least two years.
It remains unclear when the United States plans to submit the draft for a formal vote in the 15-member Council. For adoption, the resolution would need at least nine affirmative votes and no vetoes from any of the five permanent members — the United States, Britain, France, Russia, or China. (ILKHA)
