Ukraine set to get Patriot, HIMARS missiles via NATO-supported U.S. aid

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Wednesday that Ukraine will receive Patriot and High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) missiles as part of a U.S. weapons aid package funded by NATO allies.
“We will definitely have Patriot and HIMARS missiles,” Zelensky stated during a press conference in Kyiv, addressing questions about the contents of the package. The announcement follows confirmation from the Trump administration that the first weapons transfer under the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) framework is now underway.
The PURL mechanism, established by NATO members and the United States, coordinates and finances Ukraine’s most urgent battlefield needs. According to a U.S. official, the aid will be delivered from U.S. stockpiles, with funding provided by NATO allies.
Zelensky has repeatedly called on Western allies to provide Patriot systems, among the few in the world capable of defending against ballistic missiles, to protect Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure from Russian attacks. Recently, the Netherlands delivered a military aid package to Ukraine, including Patriot missile components.
HIMARS systems have also proven pivotal for Ukrainian forces, providing long-range strike capabilities up to 300 kilometers (186 miles), allowing Ukraine to target critical enemy positions, including areas in Russia’s Leningrad Oblast.
Under PURL, NATO members such as Canada, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden pool contributions to purchase U.S. weapons, munitions, and equipment for Ukraine. Zelensky confirmed that the first two aid packages are valued at $500 million each, a figure corroborated by a White House official.
The PURL mechanism was agreed upon by NATO members in June 2025, with multiple countries committing to supply weapons through the system to support Ukraine in its ongoing conflict. (ILKHA)
