Two police killed in separate targeted attacks in northwestern Pakistan
Two police constables were killed in separate targeted shooting incidents in Bannu district of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, officials confirmed.
Police authorities described both incidents as acts of terrorism and said search operations have been launched to identify and apprehend the perpetrators involved in the attacks.
In the first incident, Police Constable Mishqat Amir was killed while returning home after attending a gathering at the Hamza Tablighi Centre. The attack took place on the Bannu–Miranshah Road near Azad Mandi, where unidentified armed assailants opened fire on him.
According to initial police reports, the constable was travelling home when he was ambushed by gunmen. He sustained critical injuries in the shooting and died at the scene before medical assistance could arrive.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and intensified security operations in surrounding localities as part of efforts to track down those responsible. Investigations into both targeted killings are ongoing.
Officials said the incidents reflect continuing security challenges in the region, where law enforcement personnel have repeatedly come under attack in recent years amid a volatile security environment. (ILKHA)
