Two Lebanese civilians killed in Israeli attacks across south Lebanon
Two Lebanese civilians were killed and several others wounded on Sunday as Israeli forces continued a series of air and ground attacks across southern Lebanon.
According to local sources, an Israeli drone targeted the town of Jwayya in the Tyre district, killing a member of the town’s municipal council. The strike sparked outrage among residents, who said the attack directly targeted civilian life and local governance.
Earlier, the Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed that another Lebanese citizen was martyred and a second injured when an Israeli drone struck a motorcycle in the town of Yater, in the Bint Jbeil district. Israeli drones also struck a civilian vehicle in Safad al-Battikh, as attacks spread across multiple areas in the south.
Israeli occupation forces additionally opened fire on civilians in the border town of al-Dhayrah, while Israeli artillery shelled Wadi al-Yas and al-Shanouh near Halta in the Arqoub region, further terrorizing local communities and forcing residents to seek shelter.
Earlier in the day, an Israeli helicopter dropped explosives on two excavators in Shebaa, and occupation troops positioned at Ramtha fired machine guns toward the Bustra farm, underscoring the breadth of the escalation.
The attacks have unfolded alongside continuous Israeli drone overflights across southern Lebanon, including over Yanouh, which had been explicitly threatened by Israeli forces a day earlier. Residents across the south reported constant aerial surveillance, deepening fear and instability despite the ceasefire.
In response to Israeli threats, the Lebanese Army announced on Sunday that it had carried out a thorough inspection of a civilian building in Yanouh, in coordination with the Cessation of Hostilities Implementation Mechanism and UNIFIL. The army confirmed that no weapons or ammunition were found inside the residence, refuting Israeli allegations and reaffirming the civilian nature of the site.
Lebanese observers criticized repeated Israeli demands for such searches, describing them as an infringement on Lebanon’s sovereignty and a form of political and military pressure exerted under the guise of security claims.
Commenting on the continued aggression, Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem warned on Saturday that the Israeli occupation remains a direct and existential threat to Lebanon. Speaking at a ceremony organized by Hezbollah’s Women’s Action Unit, he stressed that surrendering to Israeli demands would strip Lebanon of its sovereignty.
Sheikh Qassem emphasized that the Lebanese state bears primary responsibility for protecting national independence and territorial integrity, affirming that the Resistance has honored its commitments under the ceasefire agreement and continues to support the government’s efforts.
He further cautioned against any additional concessions, pointing to what he described as coordinated American-Israeli plans targeting Lebanon, and called on the Lebanese government to firmly defend the country’s rights and sovereignty in the face of continued Israeli aggression. (ILKHA)
