Türkiye condemns Israeli raid on UNRWA compound in East Jerusalem
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong statement condemning the raid carried out by Israeli security forces on the compound of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in occupied East Jerusalem.
In its written statement, the Ministry said the seizure of the UNRWA premises constitutes a serious breach of international law, stressing that United Nations facilities enjoy diplomatic inviolability and must be protected from interference.
The Ministry also referenced an advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice dated 22 October 2025, which it said clearly affirms Israel’s obligations as an occupying power to guarantee the uninterrupted operation of UNRWA and to refrain from obstructing its activities.
According to the statement, UNRWA’s continued work is considered vital for providing essential services to Palestinian refugees and for safeguarding their right of return, as well as supporting broader efforts to achieve a lasting and just peace in the region.
Calling on the international community to act, the Turkish Foreign Ministry urged states and international institutions to take firm and effective measures against what it described as ongoing violations of international law, and to maintain their political and humanitarian support for UNRWA.
The Ministry concluded by reiterating Türkiye’s commitment to international law and its continued support for the rights of the Palestinian people. (ILKHA)
