U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that he faces a “big decision” over whether to resume major military attacks against Iran, including what he described as the possible “annihilation” of the Iranian regime.

“I have a big decision coming up,” Trump told Axios in an interview published Thursday. “Do I want to go in and annihilate them [the Iranian regime] or do I not? It’s a big decision. Anything could happen with me.”

Trump did not explicitly name Iran in the quoted remarks, but the comments came in the context of the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict. Axios reported that Trump is weighing whether to launch renewed large-scale military operations as Washington considers how to bring the conflict to an end.

Trump is also expected to meet next week with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The talks are expected to address the next phase of the conflict and broader regional strategy.

The Trump administration has previously considered additional military action against Iran, including limited strikes aimed at degrading Iranian military capabilities and addressing tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. (ILKHA)
