Saudi Arabia reports zero power outages at holy sites during 2026 Hajj
Saudi Arabia’s national energy company has confirmed that the holy sites in Makkah and Madinah experienced uninterrupted electricity supply throughout the entire 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, despite the massive influx of pilgrims.
Officials described the achievement as a result of comprehensive preparations, including enhanced network readiness, advanced smart grid technologies, and the deployment of 2,200 dedicated personnel who worked around the clock to monitor and maintain power infrastructure.
The successful operation ensured stable power to critical facilities, including the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and surrounding pilgrimage areas, even as millions of worshippers converged on the sites for the annual Islamic pilgrimage.
A statement from the national energy company highlighted the importance of the robust infrastructure upgrades implemented in recent years, which have significantly improved reliability and response capabilities during high-demand periods.
This marks another successful logistical milestone for Saudi authorities in managing one of the world’s largest annual religious gatherings, where reliable electricity is essential for safety, transportation, cooling systems, and medical services.
Hajj 2026 concluded without any reported power disruptions at the holy sites, reinforcing confidence in the Kingdom’s growing capabilities to host large-scale international events. (ILKHA)
