Palestinian female prisoners face harsh conditions in Israeli prison
The Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has reported that serious violations against female Palestinian prisoners are continuing at Damon Prison, operated by the Israeli occupation regime, including arbitrary detention, medical neglect and sustained psychological pressure.
In a statement, the commission said that women held at Damon Prison are subjected to the same harsh detention policies imposed on male prisoners, including arbitrary arrest, aggressive interrogation practices and the denial of basic legal safeguards.
According to the commission, female prisoners are frequently exposed to humiliating and invasive searches, collective punishment measures and severe restrictions on family visits. They are also deprived of essential personal and humanitarian needs, practices which, the statement said, directly undermine human dignity.
One of the most serious violations highlighted was deliberate medical negligence. The commission noted that delays in treatment and the refusal to provide necessary medical examinations have worsened both the physical and psychological health of the detainees. It added that solitary confinement, arbitrary transfers between prisons and constant psychological pressure are being used in attempts to break the prisoners’ will.
Prisoners’ rights organizations said in a report released on Monday that the number of female Palestinian prisoners held in occupation prisons has risen to around 50. The organizations warned that conditions of detention continue to deteriorate amid a lack of accountability.
The commission and rights groups called on the international community to take urgent action to halt the violations and ensure protection for female prisoners, stressing that the ongoing abuses constitute a serious breach of international humanitarian and human rights law. (ILKHA)
