Israeli sniper kills Palestinian civilian, injures child in Gaza
At least one Palestinian civilian was killed and another injured on Tuesday evening after Israeli occupation forces opened fire in different areas of the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian medical sources, in yet another violation of the ceasefire that took effect in October.
Medical officials reported that an Israeli army sniper shot and killed a 35-year-old Palestinian man in the al-Atatra area of Beit Lahia in northern Gaza. In a separate incident, Israeli soldiers opened fire on tents sheltering displaced Palestinians east of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, wounding a minor.
Hospitals across the Gaza Strip confirmed that the body of another slain Palestinian and six additional casualties were received over the past 24 hours. Medical authorities stated that since the ceasefire agreement came into effect on October 11, the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces has reached 377, with 987 others injured. In addition, the bodies of 626 Palestinians have been recovered from beneath the rubble of destroyed homes and infrastructure during the same period.
Meanwhile, WAFA correspondents reported widespread destruction across northern and central Gaza. Israeli occupation forces detonated and demolished several residential buildings east of Jabalia and in Beit Lahia, while renewed airstrikes targeted eastern Gaza City. Artillery shelling also pounded eastern Khan Younes and areas north of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
Further explosions were reported in Gaza City’s Zaytoun neighborhood, where Israeli forces blew up a large residential complex. Residents across the city reported hearing massive blasts as thick plumes of smoke rose into the sky, deepening the suffering of a population already exhausted by months of relentless bombardment.
Since October 2023, Israel has waged a devastating military assault on the Gaza Strip, killing at least 70,366 Palestinians — the majority of them women and children — and injuring more than 171,064 others. Palestinian sources estimate that at least 10,000 people remain missing and are presumed dead under the rubble of their homes.
The Israeli assault has also triggered one of the largest forced displacements in modern Palestinian history, with nearly two million Palestinians driven from their homes across Gaza. Most were pushed into the overcrowded southern city of Rafah, near the Egyptian border, in what Palestinians describe as the largest mass forced displacement since the 1948 Nakba.
Despite international calls for accountability and an end to attacks on civilians, Israeli forces continue military operations, demolitions, and airstrikes across the besieged enclave, worsening an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis. (ILKHA)
