Iran has officially suspended the implementation of its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, with senior officials declaring that the United States has effectively destroyed the agreement through repeated violations and continued military aggression against the Islamic Republic.

Speaking in an interview with Iran's national television on Saturday, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran had remained committed to diplomacy and continued negotiations, but accused Washington of sabotaging the process by breaching its obligations under the memorandum and escalating hostile actions.

"The United States has effectively abandoned all of its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding," Gharibabadi said. "Consequently, Iran has suspended the implementation of all of its own commitments. None of those commitments are currently being implemented."

He stressed that it was Washington—not Tehran—that had rendered the agreement inoperative by violating its commitments and pursuing military escalation instead of dialogue.

Gharibabadi said Iran's immediate priority is the united and resolute defense of the country's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security in the face of continued US aggression.

He emphasized that Iran has already responded to Washington's actions, asserting that pressure and military force would fail to undermine the country's resolve or achieve American objectives.

"The United States has already received its response," he said. "If it acts wisely, it should abandon the path of war and pursue diplomacy instead."

The deputy foreign minister reaffirmed that Iran's strategy remains centered on defending the nation and responding decisively to any act of aggression.

He said the Islamic Republic would continue to safeguard its national interests while standing ready to confront any threats against the country.

Gharibabadi's remarks come amid heightened regional tensions following continued US military operations against Iran, which Tehran has condemned as unlawful violations of its sovereignty and international law.

Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that the country remains open to genuine diplomacy but insist that any meaningful negotiations require the United States to honor its commitments, end its hostile actions, and respect Iran's sovereign rights under international law. (ILKHA)
