Iran summons German ambassador over allegations against Tehran
Iran summoned German Ambassador Axel Dittmann to the Foreign Ministry on Monday to protest repeated baseless allegations by German officials against the Islamic Republic.
Alireza Yousefi, Iran’s assistant foreign minister and director general for Western Europe, met with Dittmann on October 19 and conveyed Tehran’s strong objection to the inappropriate and politically motivated approach adopted by some German officials toward Iran.
Yousefi said security-related allegations against Iran had long been used by Israel and certain Western countries as a means of advancing political agendas and diverting attention from their own actions.
He rejected the accusations directed at Tehran and stressed that repeating unsubstantiated claims would not make them credible.
Yousefi warned that using judicial proceedings to lend legitimacy to politically motivated allegations would undermine, rather than strengthen, confidence in Germany’s judicial system.
He further argued that efforts to implicate Iran were aimed at deflecting attention from Germany’s support for the United States and Israel during their military campaign against Iran.
The Iranian official stressed that Tehran would continue to pursue Germany’s international responsibility over its alleged role in the conflict and what Iran describes as war crimes committed during the US-Israeli military aggression.
He made clear that political pressure and accusations would not deter Iran from seeking accountability through international channels.
Dittmann said he would convey Iran’s concerns to the relevant authorities in Berlin.
In a separate diplomatic move, Germany’s Foreign Ministry summoned Iran’s ambassador on Monday over allegations of an attempted attack targeting a leader of one of the country’s Jewish communities.
In a statement posted on X, the German ministry said it would not tolerate attacks against Jewish residents and accused Iran of involvement.
The allegations and Tehran’s rejection of accusations against it have added to tensions between the two countries. The claims concerning the alleged plot remain distinct from Iran’s objections to Germany’s broader political and military position.
The diplomatic dispute follows a German court ruling several days earlier that sentenced two men to prison over alleged plans to attack prominent pro-Israeli figures and spy on Jewish people on behalf of Iran’s intelligence services.
The case has further strained relations between Tehran and Berlin, as Iran challenges accusations against it while criticising Germany’s alignment with Washington and Tel Aviv.
Tehran maintains that allegations directed at the Islamic Republic should not be used to distract from the actions of countries supporting the US-Israeli military campaign. The latest diplomatic exchanges underscore the deepening divide between Iran and Germany over security allegations, regional conflict and international accountability. (ILKHA)
