Hamas rejects trusteeship over Gaza, says Palestinians alone decide their future
The Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas said on Sunday that it has fully adhered to the terms of the ceasefire agreement, while accusing Israel of persistently violating the deal and using what it described as weak and fabricated pretexts to evade its obligations.
In a statement marking its 38th anniversary, Hamas said Israel has engaged in continuous and systematic breaches of the ceasefire, including military attacks, restrictions on humanitarian aid, and obstruction of agreed measures, all of which have further deepened the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The movement called on mediators and the United States administration to exert real pressure on Israel to compel it to fully implement the agreement.
Hamas urged Washington to translate its public commitments into concrete action by enforcing the ceasefire, halting Israeli attacks and violations against Palestinians, reopening border crossings—especially the Rafah crossing in both directions—and allowing a significant increase in the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, where more than two million people continue to endure catastrophic living conditions.
The movement described the Al-Aqsa Flood operation as a historic and decisive turning point in the Palestinian struggle, saying it marked the beginning of the decline of the Israeli occupation and reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s determination to achieve freedom and independence on their land.
Rejecting any form of trusteeship, mandate, or external control over the Gaza Strip or any part of the occupied Palestinian territories, Hamas warned against attempts to impose forced displacement or reshape Gaza in line with Israeli agendas. It stressed that only the Palestinian people have the legitimate right to determine their political leadership and manage their national affairs.
Hamas reaffirmed the Palestinians’ right under international law to defend themselves, liberate their land, and establish a fully sovereign and independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. It emphasized that Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque remain at the heart of the conflict, rejecting Israeli claims of sovereignty over the city and asserting that settlement expansion and Judaization policies will not erase its Palestinian identity.
The movement called on Arab and Islamic countries to take urgent, coordinated steps to pressure Israel to end its aggression, reopen border crossings, allow the unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid, and immediately begin relief, shelter, and reconstruction efforts in Gaza to ensure basic living conditions for its besieged population.
On the issue of Palestinian prisoners, Hamas said their release remains a top national priority and condemned what it described as international silence regarding their suffering. It called on the international community and human rights organizations to intensify pressure on Israel to end violations against Palestinian detainees held in its prisons.
Hamas further stressed that the Palestinian people’s inalienable national rights—foremost among them the right to resist occupation in all its forms—are guaranteed by international law and cannot be surrendered. It also highlighted the importance of achieving national unity and rebuilding the Palestinian political system on the basis of a unified struggle and resistance strategy to confront Israeli plans aimed at dismantling the Palestinian cause.
The statement concluded by praising Palestinian resistance forces and global solidarity movements, calling for intensified international action to confront Israeli policies and practices targeting the Palestinian people, their land, and their rights. (ILKHA)
