Five workers killed in mine collapse in northern Afghanistan
Five workers have been killed after a mine collapsed in Afghanistan’s northern Takhar province, local media outlet TOLOnews reported Saturday.
Naqibullah Masroor, head of press and public relations at the Takhar Police Command, told TOLOnews that the collapse occurred at a mine in Shah Mastan Valley in Chah Ab district.
Masroor said local authorities would provide further details about the incident later.
The report did not specify when the collapse occurred or provide additional information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Located along Afghanistan’s border with Tajikistan, Takhar province is rich in mineral resources and has attracted miners in recent years. Mining accidents have periodically resulted in casualties in the province. (ILKHA)
