At least five killed, 30 injured in Russian attacks across Ukraine
At least five people were killed and 30 others injured in Russian attacks across Ukraine over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday, as Russia launched another large-scale missile and drone assault on Kyiv and surrounding regions.
The overnight attack on the capital killed at least three people and injured five others, officials said, as Russian strikes on Kyiv continued for a second consecutive day.
In neighboring Kyiv Oblast, a child was found dead under the rubble of a house in Vyshhorod, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration. A man and a woman were also injured in the attack.
Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched 188 attack drones of various types, including 86 jet-powered drones, as well as Zircon and Oniks missiles and Iskander-M and S-400 ballistic missiles.
Ukrainian air defenses shot down or suppressed 160 aerial targets, including five missiles and 155 drones, the Air Force said. Strikes were recorded at 18 locations.
The overnight barrage came as Russian forces continued attacks across several Ukrainian regions.
In northern Sumy Oblast, two people were killed and at least 15 others injured over the past day, local authorities said. A 74-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman were killed when guided aerial bombs struck the region.
In eastern Donetsk Oblast, six people were injured in Russian attacks over the same period, regional Governor Vadym Filashkin said.
In southern Kherson Oblast, five people were injured after Russian forces targeted critical infrastructure and residential areas, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said. Two houses were damaged in the attacks.
Russian forces also attacked Dnipropetrovsk Oblast more than 20 times using aerial bombs, drones and artillery, regional authorities said. A 67-year-old man was injured and a fire broke out following the attacks.
The latest strikes add to a sustained Russian aerial campaign across Ukraine, with civilian areas and critical infrastructure repeatedly coming under attack.
Ukrainian authorities said the full extent of the damage from the latest attacks was still being assessed. (ILKHA)
