Thomas Barrack arrives in Ankara as new US ambassador to Türkiye

Thomas J. Barrack, a businessman and long-time adviser to US President Donald Trump, has officially arrived in Ankara to begin his tenure as the new United States ambassador to Türkiye.
Touching down at Esenboğa Airport on Monday, Barrack addressed members of the press with a message of optimism and partnership, declaring his arrival a “homecoming” and expressing his commitment to strengthening US-Türkiye ties.
“To arrive in this beautiful land, where the echoes of history blend with the promise of tomorrow, feels like a homecoming,” Barrack said. “I come to you as a bridge sent by President Trump of the United States, with a bold message: peace and prosperity for our two nations can only flourish when the hearts and hands of our peoples and their leadership are lifted jointly in this quest.”
Barrack’s appointment, seen as a reflection of the Trump administration’s desire to reinvigorate relations with Türkiye, comes at a critical time, with regional conflicts, defense cooperation, and economic engagement at the forefront of bilateral concerns.
Known for his close ties to Trump and extensive experience in business and diplomacy, Barrack is expected to focus on deepening strategic and economic collaboration between Washington and Ankara while navigating challenges related to security, trade, and broader geopolitical dynamics.
Turkish officials are expected to formally welcome the new ambassador in the coming days, with meetings anticipated between Barrack and key figures in the Turkish government. (ILKHA)
