Prophet’s Lovers Foundation marks Hijri New Year with call for Islamic unity
As Muslims around the world mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year, the Prophet’s Lovers Foundation delivered a stirring and reflective message highlighting the spiritual depth and historical significance of the Hijrah — the noble migration of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Mecca to Medina.
The statement, read publicly by Yakup Kaya, a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, framed the Hijri New Year not merely as a symbolic occasion but as a critical moment for introspection, unity, and a call to action for the global Muslim community. Kaya began the message with prayers and salutations upon the Prophet, followed by a verse from the Qur'an: "Those who emigrated, were expelled from their homes, were persecuted, fought and were killed in My way. And I will surely cover their sins and put them in gardens beneath which rivers flow. The best of rewards is with Allah."
Reflecting on the meaning of this verse, Kaya described Hijrah as a profound act of spiritual and physical commitment — not a retreat, but a journey undertaken by those dedicated to preserving and living by divine truth. “Hijrah,” he said, “is not an escape but a prophetic stage — a foundational moment in the struggle for justice, dignity, and Islamic values.”
He continued, “Hijrah is the pathway from darkness to light, from tyranny to justice. It is the very essence of migration with a mission — a mission to build a society anchored in faith, mutual support, and divine guidance.” Kaya emphasized that this historical moment led to the creation of a just Islamic society in Medina, based on the principles of equality, accountability, and communal solidarity.
The Foundation's message went on to draw strong connections between the values embodied in the Hijrah and the present-day crises in the Muslim world. Kaya highlighted the ongoing suffering of Muslims in Gaza and other oppressed regions, pointing out that the spirit of Hijrah must inspire modern-day Muslims to rebuild Islamic brotherhood and reclaim their rightful place in the world. “Just as the Prophet’s migration laid the groundwork for the first Islamic state,” he said, “so too must today’s Muslims strive to restore their bonds of faith and fraternity to overcome division, occupation, and injustice.”
He lamented the divisions and conflicts that have weakened the Islamic Ummah and criticized the erosion of historical consciousness among Muslims, particularly the neglect of the Hijri calendar in public life. “We must reawaken our identity and realign our daily lives with the moral compass of the Hijrah. The Islamic calendar is not a relic of the past; it is a living legacy that reminds us of the values we must embody.”
Kaya also urged the Muslim world to embrace the Qur'an and Sunnah not merely as rituals but as active guides for governance, social justice, and spiritual resilience. He cautioned against falling into historical disputes over trivial issues, which, he said, only serve to distract from the greater mission of unity and resistance against tyranny.
In its conclusion, the Prophet’s Lovers Foundation offered a heartfelt prayer for the year ahead: that it may bring barakah (blessings), steadfastness, and victory to all those working for the supremacy of Islam and justice for the oppressed. Special mention was made of the people of Gaza, who continue to suffer under siege and occupation. The Foundation called on all Muslims to support the resistance through their prayers, solidarity, and action, wherever they may be. (ILKHA)
“As the new Hijri year begins,” Kaya declared, “may it herald an era of awakening, unity, and victory for the Muslim Ummah. May it remind us of our duty to stand with the oppressed, uphold truth, and rebuild the brotherhood that once made our community strong and just.”
The message by the Prophet’s Lovers Foundation serves as a poignant reminder of the timeless relevance of the Hijrah, calling Muslims not only to remember the past but to carry its torch into the present and future struggles for justice, unity, and divine guidance. (ILKHA)
