HÜDA PAR MP Şahzade Demir meets earthquake survivors in Nurdağı

HÜDA PAR Deputy Chairman and Gaziantep MP Şahzade Demir paid a visit to the Nurdağı district of Gaziantep on Wednesday, meeting with residents still struggling with the lasting effects of the devastating February 6, 2023 earthquakes.
During his visit, Demir sat down with citizens and local neighborhood headmen who voiced frustration over unresolved problems more than two years after the disaster. Survivors highlighted several pressing concerns, including the uncertainty over container housing, high dues in Housing Development Administration (TOKİ) projects, and lingering infrastructure issues, such as poor road conditions. They also objected to plans to cut down olive trees in areas recently designated as forest land.
Residents further stressed the need for children’s parks and community spaces, pointing out that while physical reconstruction efforts are visible, neglecting the emotional and spiritual well-being of young people could have long-term consequences.
“We have always been on the field,” Demir told the community, acknowledging both the extensive recovery work already carried out and the urgent need for further action. “Very good work has been done, but there is still much more to do.”
The HÜDA PAR lawmaker assured residents that the party is committed to addressing their concerns, adding that they regularly engage with government authorities to find solutions. “If solutions are not found, we will bring the problems and demands of our people to Parliament,” he said, reaffirming support for what he described as the “just and legitimate demands” of earthquake survivors.
In addition to raising local issues, residents expressed solidarity with the Palestinian cause, voicing support for a HÜDA PAR legislative proposal concerning Israelis with dual citizenship. They urged Parliament to pass the proposal into law, underlining the community’s sensitivity toward the ongoing situation in Gaza.
Demir’s visit underscores both the continuing hardships faced by earthquake-hit communities in Nurdağı and HÜDA PAR’s active role in amplifying local voices. He assured citizens that the party will remain engaged on the ground and in Parliament until practical solutions are implemented to ease their burden. (ILKHA)
